Geologic Information

Introduction

This section describes how to work with stratigraphy in Epicentre. The examples show how to build a simple portion of a stratigraphic column. The column can be provided as reference data and therefore is easily shared and exchanged. Stratigraphy is generally composed of a formal set of accepted and well defined units that grade into a more informal, locally useful set of terminology. Both types of references are shown in the example. The intention is that additional scenarios could be given that would expand eighter the formal unit relationships or extend the locally pertinent details. This is accomplished by populating additional classification systems to build on the initial example.

Geologic Columns

A geologic column is a stratigraphic model of the earth, constructed of stratigraphic units (groups, formations, beds).



In this example, we take a close look at the Frio formation. The formation is composed of three members; Upper, Middle, and Lower Frio. The Middle Frio contains ten local markers as defined by the Stratton field case study of Levey et al (1994) shown in the diagram.

Geologic Picks in a Wellbore

This file describes the interpretation of geologic feature positions, as viewed in a wellbore. Seven stratigraphic markers are located.

The each point is reported in three ways, by measured depth, from sea level elevations, and in two way travel time.
