| POSC Specifications Version 2.2 | CGM*PIP Volume 1 - PIP/I/3 and PIP/II/3 |
The PIP profile was originally produced in 1992-3 by a Project Team whose work was supported by a group of Subscribers - companies active in the petroleum exploration and production industry. Active participation was open to and solicited from all organizations willing to contribute to the cost of the project.
The content of PIP is a result of an extensive requirements survey of the Subscribers, followed by a draft profile, review period, reconciliation of issues, and initial public release (May 1993). The final release by the PIP Project, which defined PIP/I/3 (revision 3 of PIP/I) and PIP/II/2 (revision 2 of PIP/II) was the result of a 1-year maintenance project which followed the initial public release of CGM*PIP. A subsequent revision (March 1996), which defined PIP/I/3 (revision 3 of PIP/I) and PIP/II/3 (revision 3 of PIP/II) was the result of the maintenance process at POSC. It is anticipated that there will be future maintenance releases.
PIP/I represents a basic, level-I set of graphical interchange capabilities, based on CGM Version 1 (as defined in CGM:1992), for the PIP constituency. PIP/II represents an advanced, level-II set of graphical interchange capabilities, based on CGM Version 3 (as defined in CGM:1992), for the PIP constituency.
The font tables in this specification (see section 10) are based on work originally performed at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado. This is considered to be a careful and accurate extraction of the font information in NBS SP 424 into a separate set of individual font files.
