What is the POSC Universal Units Converter?

It is a units conversion program that easily and quickly shows equivalencies for everything from common units such as feet in a mile to obscure units such as therms in a joule.

A calculator function is included with the converter to allow easy conversion from any unit quantity to an equivalent "other" unit quantity.

Units are indexed by categories. This lets you find all the valid units for a specific category. For example, for the category "frequency," you can easily see the valid units are cycles/second, Hertz, radians/second and revolutions/minute. (The converter then lets you convert any of these units to any of the other units.)

As an alternative, the units can be categorized by the base dimensional unit. For example, the "metre" is the base dimensional unit for all categories of "length" (e.g., "length tube diameter", "length midrange", "length earth surface").

The POSC Universal Units Converter is based on POSC standard reference data for units conversion. It comes preloaded with the current units reference data as defined in the POSC Specifications V3.0.

What computer platforms does it run on?

It works on Windows 9x/2000/NT and most versions of UNIX.

Are there any special requirements to use it?

You must install Tcl/Tk version 8.0 or higher on your system to use it. You may download the latest version of Tcl/Tk from ActiveState .

How is the Units Converter licensed?

This software is being distributed as shareware. You may try it for 30 days. If you find it useful and elect to keep it you must pay POSC $10 US for a registered license to it. View the license terms.

How do I register?

Fill out the information in the registration file found here (Registration.txt) or in the UConvert root directory and mail, fax or email it to POSC. The registration fee is $10 US per licensed user. You may pay by credit card or check (if in US dollars drawn on a US bank).

This is a free upgrade for all registered users. Just uninstall the old version and install the new version.

Units Data Updates

The units conversion data has been updated to POSC Specifications V3.0 and an alternative file is available for using the base/derived units as the categories. The files are backward compatible with older versions of the units tool except that the older tools cannot utilize the alternative categories.

To update your local copy of the latest units conversion data, just download the appropriate file below and decompress it into the UConvert installation directory.
