Stewart Robinson

Stewart Robinson is the Director of IT and Data Services in the Oil and Gas Directorate of the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). He has a mathematics academic background followed by earning a Masters of Science from the London School of Economics in Systems Analysis and Design. He worked for over 25 years on large data base systems, the last 20+ years in the oil and gas arena. His expertise is in systems and data base design and data management.

Stewart Robinson has been an active member and advocate of POSC since its inception. He has been a POSC Board Director for the last three years. He tried to stimulate standards activity based on POSC standards among regulatory bodies from around the world and among the oil companies. This work has been predicated on the belief that there are more things that are the same in Government / oil company dealings around the world than are different. He has always championed the need for simple data exchange mechanisms based on ASCII (now XML). He pioneered the first dynamic government release of basic well data in POSC compliant format on the Web. He is the Project Manager for a major eCommerce initiative in the UK to build a UK Oil Portal which will handle all dealings between government and oil companies. The intention is to use POSC standards and, hopefully, to share experiences with others around the world doing similar work. He is a regular conference speaker on data management and standards issues.
