Industry Value

The value of LogGraphicsML to the E&P industry is accrued in its use, as described in the following use cases:

Well Log Rendering Input
Reusable LogGraphicsML documents are easily produced or modified by users of well log graphics rendering systems, and can be used as control input by systems which implement the LogGraphicsML specification.
  • " Schlumberger uses the LogGraphicsML standard for log formats in the Interact Web Witness product for displaying logs in a web browser. Schlumberger also has plans to use the LogGraphicsML standard for log format descriptions in future acquisition systems for Wireline and Drilling. "
    -- Kanai Pathak, Schlumberger
  • " INT is implementing the LogGraphicsML specification so that it is supported by both our C++ and Java toolkits. We are also adopting it to use into our web-enabled Java welllog viewer, where we will use it for the specification of templates files. "
    -- Olivier Lhemann, INT
Standard Presentation Registries
Well log presentation catalogs may provide on-line or other access to shareable presentation definitions. Producers and consumers of rendered well log data, and well log data rendering systems, can communicate presentation requirements by catalog reference, without the need to replicate presentation documents.
  • " POSC solicits comments, proposals, requirements, etc., for a project to implement and populate a repository of standard or common well log presentations. "
    -- Jim Theriot, POSC

Futures

The following have been suggested as topics for future work efforts:
Name Details
Application Translators Identify and describe use cases and specify requirements for translators between LogGraphicsML and proprietary formats i. e. presentation definition input formats for well log graphic rendering systems.
Presentation Registries Identify and describe use cases and specify requirements for registries of common or shared presentations.
