Matthew Kirkman (BP and WITSML SIG Co-Chair) characterized this seminar as follows:

"This was by far our most successful public meeting to date, with excellent presentations from Statoil, ChevronTexaco and the International Association of Drilling Contractors and newcomers to the practical use of web services in the drilling and completions domain. Live demonstrations of actual implementations of web services, pushing the actual use into the contextual data as well as the real time data transfers, and the overall buzz around a growing technical community implementing web services were excellent. The presence of a large number of new operators, applications vendors and service companies in an audience of 90, has certainly pushed the group forward.

I also take heart from a growing understanding of the importance of the work done by this community where it touches the use of XML standards for web services in other domains that touch on the applications used in Drilling and Completions."

The focus of this Seminar was on 'right time' seamless flow of well site data to speed and enhance decision-making.  Everyone interested in the business process of drilling data acquisition and transfer were encouraged to attend.

The WITSML standard supports data exchange from the rig site to the office environment.  Take-up of WITSML is strong and providing exciting results.

The seminar featured presentations from oil company operators, software suppliers, and service companies addressing their experiences and benefits being derived by WITSML deployment and their plans for future use of WITSML.

Demonstrations of WITSML solutions were shown.

More information on the WITSML initiative/specifications can be found on the WITSML Web site or by contacting Alan Doniger at POSC.  All organizations with an interest in the WITSML standard are invited to join the WITSML SIG to support the standard and to determine its future direction.
