Flights

January is a popular time among India’s diaspora to visit home and flights are usually very full at this time of year. Also, it is suggested that you seek to avoid the very frequent weather (fog) disruption to air traffic at Delhi in January.  Plan to arrive around mid-day, not mid-night.  Some airlines alter their schedules to this effect in January.

Road Transport

Many overseas organizations active in India insist on their employees not driving themselves.  It is common practice when several journeys are anticipated in a day to hire a cab and its driver for the whole day.  The cost will be about $20.

Currency

The Indian Rupee (Rs.) currently trades at around Rs44 to the US Dollar.  Credit cards are widely accepted.  It is recommended to carry a few hundred US $ travelers checks as back-up, and to exchange some $50 or so in the airport arrivals hall for taxis, tips, and other small items where credit cards are not useful.

Medication

The PETROTECH-2005 brochure states the following:
“Delegates are advised to obtain a vaccination certificate against yellow fever if arriving from/traveling through endemic areas in Africa. “
In addition, travelers should seek advise from their doctors on the need for anti-malarial and other preventative medication.
