There are also half-day seminars in the Fall 2002 POSC Conferences in London, Oct. 15-16 and in Houston, Nov. 20-21

The focus of this workshop was on 'right time' seamless flow of well site data between operators and service companies to speed and enhance decision-making.

The meeting lasted one and a half days, beginning at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 5.

The workshop was open to WITSML project participants and the broader community interested in drilling data acquisition and transfer.  The WITSML initiative has developed the new XML standard as an evolution of the Wellsite Information Transfer Specification used for data exchange between computer systems at the rig site; take-up of the specification has been strong.

The work of the WITSML project is being moved into the POSC domain.  This worship was planned to open up the WITSML standard organization to a broader community, and kick-off the WITSML Special Interest Group, open to POSC members and non-members.

Plans for the SIG operation through mid-2003 were reviewed and near-term needs for progressing the WITSML specifications were defined.

More information on the WITSML initiative/specifications can be found on the WITSML Web site or by contacting Alan Doniger at POSC.

The presentation files that have been made available to POSC can be reached via links embedded in the agenda below.

Following the workshop, Matthew Kirkman of BP said the following on behalf of the WITSML Committee and the new POSC WITSML SIG:

We would like to thank those who attended the Stavanger workshop and look forward to working with all who will participate in the WITSML SIG in 2003.

The workshop survey, referenced below, includes both quantitative and written responses. All of the results, as well as other input, will be addressed as part of the work of the WITSML SIG in 2003.

WITSML SIG activities for 2003 will begin in January and will be announced on the POSC and WITSML Web Sites.

NOTE:  A "XML in Drilling - Survey of Priorities for 2003" was prepared.  Attendees were asked to submit this completed survey at the end of Tuesday's session.  Please follow these links to see the survey form as an MS Word file [45 kb] and the actual survey results (as an MS Word file [31 kb] and an Excel Spreadsheet file [21 kb]).
