Joint Project to Facilitate Usage of POSC Specifications in Russia

Petrotechnical Open Software Corporation (POSC), GlavNIVC and Pangea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will create a joint project supporting the development and usage of POSC specifications in Russia.

The goal of the joint project is to translate the basic POSC components into Russian so that a comparative analysis can be carried out with the Russian State Bank of the Digital Geodata (RSBGD) standards, with the view of proposing local Russian oil and gas requirements for the POSC data model, Epicentre.

POSC will be working with GlavNIVC and Pangea to solicit project support and participation from both oil and service companies. Proposals for the joint project will be presented to the industry in March 1998, and the project is scheduled to begin in April 1998. David Archer, President of POSC, said, "This will be a significant step in building a relationship between POSC and the Russian oil and gas industry. We are especially pleased to collaborate with the Russian industry and to encourage use of the international specifications."

GlavNIVC is a body of the Ministry of Natural Resources in Russia with responsibility for maintenance of the Russian State Bank of the Digital Geodata (RSBGD). RSBGD is used in data exchange between companies operating in Russia and the State.

Pangea is a Russian software company that develops geological and geophysical applications for oil and gas companies in Russia, China and elsewhere around the world.

POSC is a not-for-profit, vendor neutral, member organization with a mission to benefit the E&P industry by establishing, maintaining and promoting specifications to be used as standards for sharing information throughout the life cycle of an oil and gas asset.
