POSC PRESENTS XML CONFERENCE FOR UPSTEAM E&P

By encouraging collaboration and organizing idea exchange forums, POSC is raising awareness of the benefits of e-business and the need for Energy eStandards to enable information exchange and business process integration within the E&P industry.

This September, POSC presents "XML Solutions for Oil & Gas E-Commerce," a 3 day web enablement event in Stavanger, Norway. This event will take place on September 27-29, 2000 and is hosted by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. The meeting, sponsored by PetroData AS, continues the series of E&P e-Business events organized by POSC.

The most recent event, held in Houston, Texas on July 13, 2000, captured the attention of a capacity crowd by delivering an overview of the current state of XML in the Upstream E&P industry. Attendees at the July conference represented major oil companies, software, services, e-commerce companies, data vendors, consultants, and government agencies.

Participants at POSC's July XML event raved about the quality of the meeting. Some of the attendees wrote:

"All the speakers (were) relevant to our business. all the topics were informative. I found the conference very enlightening."

"Well chosen speakers and demo's. First-rate meeting!"

When asked about the future use of web-based services, oil company attendees wrote:

"We are gaining an awareness of external web-based services and will be moving to that environment for procurement."

"We believe that most of our business processes will be supported via web technology."

POSC is building on the success of the July XML event by offering an expanded activity schedule at the upcoming Norway conference. The September sessions will include Java and XML training, a workshop on using XML for production information and seminars for discussing e-Business trends in the E&P industry.

Speakers from IBM, Conoco, and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate will describe their involvement in XML development and their participation in collaborative XML projects benefiting the E&P industry.

The objective of the Stavanger conference is for European participants to see XML in action within the E&P industry, to identify opportunities for collaborative XML-based solutions, and to receive hands-on web enablement training.

The conference will benefit a very diverse audience. Managers or technical developers working on E&P related electronic commerce initiatives, those seeking to understand the state of XML usage in E&P, and everyone interested in opportunities for collaborative development of XML solutions (specifications & products) are encouraged to attend. Online registration is available through the POSC web site (http://www.posc.org).
