POSC Geoshare SIG
This page summarizes the new POSC Geoshare
Special Interest Group (SIG) focusing on the SIG's initial six month
work period.
This SIG follows the current
SIG Guidelines
which address charters, participation, resources, fees,
neutrality, and the key deliverables:
periodic publication of consensus requirements
for good practices, industry standards, and
solution product and service features.
Description and Purpose
The purpose of the Geoshare SIG is
to foster and encourage the use of Geoshare
as a standard mechanism for exchange of data between
software products in use in the petrotechnical industry.
It shall guide and direct the development of Geoshare
as a standard both with respect to
the data model and encoding specification being used
and with respect to the programming standards and
data transfer methods supported.

the SIG participants.
Guidelines and Limitations
This will be a topic of the initial meeting(s) of
the SIG participants.
Status and Plans
Plans for the initial six month work period of the SIG will
be a topic of the initial meeting(s) of the SIG membership;
suggested items to address include:
- Migration of GUG Web site content and services to
a POSC Geoshare SIG presence on the POSC Web site.
- Integration of POSC and Geoshare marketing activities
- Publication of next version of Geoshare Data Model,
incorporating currently approved changes
- Upgrade model presentation generation process,
using XML-based technology
- Promote discussion of requirements and
use cases, as well as technological opportunities,
for internet-enabled Geoshare; for example:
- alternative data encoding and data model
presentation using XML
- alternative exchange protocols using Web and Internet
protocols
- best practices for halflink mappings using XSLT
- standards for querying data sets using XQuery
- ...

POSC proposes integration of POSC and Geoshare User Group (GUG)
- April 14, 2002 -
GUG membership authorizes BoD to work out details,
subject to approval my GUG membership
- October 7, 2002 -
GUG BoD submits proposal to GUG membership for
approval
- November 2002 - GUG membership approves the POSC transfer
agreement
- April 2003 - First in-person POSC Geoshare SIG meeting in Houston
