Upgrade Announcement

POSC has released an update to Epicentre V2.2. The update is to be labelled V2.2.2, and was released February 15, 1999. Instructions for performing the update are contained in the Instructions for Update section.

The release consists of the following parts:

  1. Updates to coordinate system and coordinate transformation information as contained in the v4.1 release of the EPSG data. The EPSG data was released in October 1998. The EPSG released their version 4.2 in November 1998. These updates will also be included.
  2. Some changes to quantity types and units of measure to support these types.
  3. WIME activity_class values. A discussion for the strategy for releasing these values is found in this link.
  4. Facility_class values to handle well, wellbore, and completion status values were not released. The values are being prepared by the DTI in colloboration with several companies. The values must be consistent with activity_class values. It is planned to release these in v2.2.3, when a set consistent with activity_class values can be developed.
  5. An extension to the well_log_trace_class_alias entity, along with a set of values for the entity, has been released. These extensions will allow the alias value (which is a curve code from various companies) to be tied to a ref_quantity_property.

This release does not include well log service classes. It is proposed that these be included with the v2.2.3 update, scheduled for July 1999. You may review the proposal for these class values by viewing the well log service classes.

The changes have been reviewed and commented on since November 30, 1998.

Changes for the first two items mentioned above can be viewed at the following links. Click here to view the general changes, and click here to view the specific changes.

The change for the fifth item is to add two attributes to well_log_trace_class_alias. The first attribute is description, which will allow the curve mnemonic to be described, using the information supplied by the company. The second is a relationship to ref_quantity_property which will allow the specification of a particular property to match the curve mnemonic. Both attributes will be optional. Where a single match of a curve mnemonic to a property is unknown, the attribute will be left NULL.

This change is the result of Change Request 1336:

Request Synopsis:

Can't load well log trace data from field tapes

Description

To be able to load well log trace data from a field tape into an Epicentre database, you have have to know what instances of ref_property_kind to associate with the well log trace. Well_log_trace_class_alias proivdes a mapping between the well log trace mnemonic from the well log tape to an Epicentre well_log_trace_class. In order to load the trace, there also needs to be an attribute to connect the well_log_trace_class_alias to an instance of ref_property_kind.

Some instances needed to be added to support the relationship between class_alias and ref_property_type. These instances result in new values for ref_quantity_property and ref_property_kind.

Instructions for the Update

Upgrade v2.2.2 is designed to be run on a database that has applied the v2.2.1 upgrade. If you have not already performed the v2.2.1 upgrade, do so before running the v2.2.2 upgrade. The POSC site contains the files and the information for doing this. Follow this link for v2.2.1 instructions.
