The following are known problems and fixes for errors found in the specifications, documentation and sample implementations contained on the September, 1996 CDROM release of V2.1 of the POSC specifications. The PT-nnnn number refers to the POSC Tracking System number.

If you encounter a problem not listed here, please contact the POSC Help Desk: help@posc.org.

CD-ROM

Problem Cause Fix
PT-1145.When viewing the V2.1 CD under Windows 3.1, many of the directories appear to be empty. Directory names and file names are too long. The directories and files are there, but are not visible under Windows 3.1 There is no workaround for this problem under Windows 3.1. On other platforms (Unix, Macintosh, Windows 95, Windows NT) the directory names and file names appear as they should.
Cannot find the Oracle DDL on the V2.1 CD. Organization of files on the CD is not clear. The Oracle DDL can be found in:
~/SourceCode/CompatLayer/Unix/v2.1.7.C_DDL.tar.Z
Because of the long file names in this directory, you will need to be using Unix or Windows 95 to access the file.

Browser

Problem Cause Fix
PT-1141.. The file ILPRODGA is supposed to show a wellbore and wellhead picture but instead shows a blank panel that obscures the buttons at the bottom of the screen. The file ILPRODGA on the V2.1 SIP CD is corrupted. A corrected version of the file ILPRODGA (FrameMaker format) is located on the POSC anonymous FTP server:
Unix compressed file: ILPRODGA.Z

Zip file (for PC users): ILPRODGA.ZIP

Sample Implementations

Problem Cause Fix
SI-1. When using the Subsetting Tool after a clean load of Epicentre Version 2.1, no entities show up in the entity window. The name of the Epicentre model in the 2.1 release doesn't match the default name the Subsetting tool looks for. Edit the file SSelect-1.0/SSelect/sss_main.tcl as specified in Sample Implementations - Fix 1.
SI-2. Under some circumstances, the Projection Tool can create a table that is intended to handle instances from different entities without the required column ENTITY_DEF_NM. There is an error in the SQL statement used to determine whether a table is intended to handle instances from different entities. Edit the file src/ProjTool/phase_4.c as specified in Sample Implementations - Fix 2.
SI-3. When building the compatibility layer sample implementation, the make utility may report a fatal error in Makefile. The build scripts use the default make utility, which may be an incorrect version. Install GNU Make Version 3.71, which is available from various ftp sites on the Internet, and is also included in the POSC V2.1 CD. The incremental release file, v2.1.001.tar.Z on the POSC anonymous FTP area in pub/relational_implementation, contains revised scripts which invoke the make utility specified by the environment variable $MAKE.
SI-4. When building the compatibility layer sample implementation, the make utility may report errors due to missing source files and target directories. The make files assume a particular build directory structure, but no scripts are provided to create the directory structure or to move the archived source files to the appropriate directories within this structure. The incremental release file, v2.1.001.tar.Z on the POSC anonymous FTP area in pub/relational_implementation, contains scripts which set environment variables, create the directory structure, and copy source files into the directory structure.
SI-5. When building the loaders of the compatibility layer sample implementation, the make utility reports errors due to missing source files. Missing source files in loaders directory. The incremental release file, v2.1.001.tar.Z on the POSC anonymous FTP area in pub/relational_implementation, contains .c and .h files for unstructured topology routines, and scripts which copy these files into the directory structure.
SI-6. When building the seismic library of the compatibility layer sample implementation, the make utility report errors due to missing source files. Missing source files in cwp directory (Colorado School of Mines SEG-Y library). The SEG-Y library file, cwp.tar.Z on the POSC anonymous FTP area in pub/relational_implementation, contains the cwp directory. Also, it should be noted that this code has not changed since earlier releases. The incremental release file, v2.1.001.tar.Z contains scripts which copy these files into the directory structure.
SI-7. When setting up data store, load of relational ref data fails due to files not found. relational ref data directory is missing from release. Create ref data directory:
mkdir $RDAE/refent
mkdir $RDAE/refent/relational
setenv R_REFENT_R $RDAE/refent/relational

Copy v2.1.7.R_REFENT_R.tar.Z on the POSC anonymous FTP area

Restore data file and load list:
zcat v2.1.7.R_REFENT_R.tar | tar xvf -
(files load_list and dstore_uom.new are restored)
SI-8.When setting up data store, load of logical ref data fails due to files not found. Script incorrectly looks for obsolete load lists exam_list and cord_list. Edit refent_setup.script. Delete last two lines beginning with "awk ...", which contain tokens "exam_list" and "cord_list". Do not delete "awk" lines containing "load_list".
PT-1148.On the V2.1 CD-ROM, the file for the Windows 95 version of the Compatibility Layer cannot be used. File on the V2.1 CD-ROM is corrupted. A corrected file is available on the FTP server:
    POSCwin.zip
